New Rules of Tax Filing for 2014: More Disclosures required by NRIs

June 24, 2016 by Sudhir Kaushik

Earlier, there used to be manual verification of DTAA relief claimed by NRI assessees at local wards of ITD. Now, the Central Processing Center (CPC) would be auto processing income tax returns of NRIs. Hence, NRIs are required to provide some additional information to facilitate this auto processing.

  1. Below information is to be included in Schedule FSI of foreign income:
    • Taxes paid outside India
    • Tax payable on such income under normal provision in India
    • Tax relief available in India (whichever of the above two is lower)
    • Relevant article of DTAA
  2. Below information is to be included in Schedule TR for Tax relief:
    • Taxes paid outside India
    • Tax relief available
    • Section under which relief is claimed (Section 90, 90A or 91, whichever applicable, is to be specified)
    • Total Tax relief available in India with respect to tax paid in a country where DTAA is applicable
    • Total Tax relief available in India with respect to tax paid in a country where DTAA is not applicable

Other tax changes that are applicable for the assessment year 2014-15:

  • Changes in provisions related to House Property
  • Changes in provisions related to Capital Gains, Commodity Trade, and Purchase of Immovable Property
